What began as a simple practice piece evolved into a finished relief carving inspired by the quiet beauty of nature. I wanted to experiment with creating open pine and fir trees rather than the fuller evergreens I normally carve. Pleased with the results, I decided the piece deserved more than being set aside or discarded.
Starting with only three trees, the scene gradually developed one element at a time. I envisioned a peaceful woodland setting with no people or animals — just the calm simplicity of nature itself. A flowing stream was added, followed by distant background trees, a rugged peaked mountain, and deciduous trees framing the composition. Each feature naturally evolved from the last as the carving took shape.
The result is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted wall art piece that captures a quiet mountain landscape and the creative process behind it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed bringing it to life.
